Friend Feeds
Mar. 19th, 2026 09:27 amTumblr's recent reblog change and subsequent rollback has led users to pick up alternate social media. THIS IS EXCELLENT. I'm a big advocate of spreading your internet footprint across multiple sites. I've been meaning to set up a centralized social RSS so I can keep up with friends wherever, not just when I occasionally poke my head into one dash or another. This gave me the push I needed to start collecting everyone's RSS feeds.
I use Feeder on Android and Feedbro on desktop.
- AO3 - See [FAQ](- AO3 - See [https://archiveofourown.org/faq/subscriptions-and-feeds?language_id=en#subscribetag])
- Bluesky - RSS automatically discoverable from the user's profile page. It's not human readable. Example:
- https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:k7w7qvflmokud2plbogjrsod/rss
- Backloggd - Provides RSS for reviews at https://backloggd.com/u/(user)/reviews/
- Dreamwidth - https://(user).dreamwidth.org/data/rss
- Instagram - I wasn't able to find an official RSS feed, but Feedbro automatically grabs posts using the profile url
- Mastodon - https://(server)/users/(user).rss
- NeoCities - Provides a limited site update RSS for users who haven't built something more comprehensive at https://neocities.org/site/(user).rss
- Pillowfort - Doesn't have RSS. You can use RSS Bridge by finding an instance that supports Pillowfort. I'm currently using rss-bridge.cheredeprince.net
- Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/(subreddit).rss or https://www.reddit.com/u/(user).rss
- Tumblr - https://(name).tumblr.com/rss
I use folders to create a master feed for each user.
Could I humbly suggest having a landing page?
Some people use NeoCities or sites like linktree for socials lists. Dreamwidth has a space for social links on the profile page.
Dreamwidth is my ground zero in the event other platforms go down.

Date: 2026-03-19 07:54 pm (UTC)I don't like how tumblr's convenient mobile app vs how my life changed once I was no longer glued to a laptop made me so reliant on tumblr. Starting to think that I need a cheap, tiny, lightweight laptop that I feel comfortable taking with me where ever I am.

Date: 2026-03-19 10:02 pm (UTC)I LIKE Tumblr, but do I need it? Would the time and energy be more happily spent elsewhere? Do I really need to maintain a passive presence on a site where I feel the need to add readmores and block reblogs on anything I post?
I struggled to find a laptop that was truly carry everywhere and ended up pairing my phone with a Keys-to-Go 2 ultralight keyboard and it has been a good solution. It fits perfectly in my bag, and is so light I never mind carrying it even if I don't end up using it. Since I'm a daily desktop driver I appreciate not having another device to maintain.

Date: 2026-03-19 10:34 pm (UTC)I have been using an ultralight foldable keyboard with my phone or with my ipad mini (about the same size as a kindle/kobo/ereader). Full agreement that it is *great* for lightweight when on the go during the day. I hardly notice the extra bulk/weight of a mini foldable keyboard in my rather small backpack-style bag.
My problem though is that I am often away from my primary homebase for prolonged periods of time (4-12 weeks per stint, multiple times per year) and I increasingly need a work-capable machine on the go but my current laptop(s) are just too big and monstrous and expensive and not for travel.
For the past few years I have been a bit of a digital nomad, but only part time (about 1/3 the year). Have been making things sort of work with an odd collection of lighter weight hardware that is all theoretically replaceable if something goes wrong, but my set up is clunky, weird, and not capable of fully replicating my work environment. Sadly tempted to purchase a lower-cost laptop this weekend, before my next flight. Something that will be quick and easy to replace if stolen/broken, but still powerful enough to run all full versions of all of my main tools.
But I hesitate because I have more than enough devices already and having one more to maintain is a PITA.
