I said TOW2 was a day-one purchase for me, and I'm gonna have to go back on that promise, but I sincerely appreciate the irony of the Outer Worlds, of all things, being Microsoft's first $80 title.

Come October, I shall play through the first game and associated DLC yet again, and when the sequel invariably goes on sale for $40 two months later I'll be there, slobbering and drooling as I gorge myself on sweet, sweet anti-capitalist jank.

You can be a complete freak about something and still set the price, lads. That's all I'm sayin'.

........

I watched all the showcase stuff for TOW2 yesterday, and uhhhhh somehow they seemed to neglect that little detail! Truly some big brained shit from Microsoft here. I of course loved TOW and I know it did well enough critically and commercially, but even if we were to ignore the batshit crazy reality of EIGHTY DOLLAR VIDEO GAMES, I do not think it has the fanbase to pull this off. Nintendo is off their fuckin' rocker for making their shit $80, and TOW ain't even got that clout.

Presumably it'll end up on Game Pass, too--I have to wonder if moves like this are meant to ~*gently nudge*~ players into getting a subscription instead of buying games outright.

I never got around to finishing the second DLC for the first game, so this does seem like a good time for a leisurely replay!

I'm pretty sure they did a season pass for the TOW expansions, too; I vaguely remember getting it for $20-$30, so I think that's as much of a guarantee as any that we'll definitely have them. But also at this point, Microsoft has earned absolutely no goodwill from me so I'll just wait to see on that.

One of my Tumblr buddies said she's probably just gonna pirate it--I haven't gone that route for a video game in almost 20 years, but I do feel like pirating the overpriced anti-capitalist game has a certain poetic justice to it, lmao.

Take it from me, lil buddy

I was honestly considering prepurchasing the premium edition until I read your entry on just the price of the base game just now. The premium edition is priced at $100, which, uhhhhhh, is certainly A Choice what with all the Switch 2 discourse I've been seeing in passing over the last month or so. Was literally talking with 2 friends who are hardcore Nintendo/Pokemon fans who are refusing to buy the console because of all the bullshit around it.

It's crazy bc every time I read some shit like this I'm always like "I should just go back to pirating vidya gaems >:(" but every time I'm like "B-but the S-Steam cheevos :("

It's funny you mention janky joycons because I heard from P that folks are having issues with their joycons on the Switch 2. I remember dealing with it on the original Switch and found out that there's a page on Nintendo's website where you can file a claim and get it replaced for free (IIRC they legally have to because of the class action lawsuit that was filed over the issue bc apparently almost everyone had this problem). I did manage to get it replaced by them and didn't have to pay a cent. Not sure if they're still doing it, but I might just because the other one is starting to act up now.

TOW DLC retailed at $15 each, so if we assume the new DLC will be $20/$30 each (the base game price has doubled, so maybe the DLC price will too?) at the low end you're theoretically saving $20 on DLC with the season pass. If people look at premium as $60 game, $40 DLC, I wonder if that makes it easier to swallow.

Tbh I might've considered prepurchasing TOW had it been $60, because Avowed is priced at that. But I also bought Avowed earlier this month at 10% off, and just now checked the listing for it and it's now 33% off. Soooo yeah I kind of wanna get into a fistfight with a Microsoft Executive since I'm sure it's one of those idiots who make these decisions.
